Dior's Crystal Studded Lips for spring 2013 couture show

Yesterday, at Dior's spring 2013 couture show, makeup artist Pat McGrath combined two themes she's been experimenting a lot with lately: textured makeup and layered lip looks, gluing red and pink Swarovski crystals on top of similar-colored lipsticks for bright, rosy pouts that dazzled all the way down the runway. It looked magical, pretty, and cutting-edge all at the same time.

However, you may want to skip the crystals for your next big date. You'd likely swallow a Swarovski stone the first time you tried to eat or drink anything, and kissing would be a challenge.

Check out these sparkle-and-shine lippies for a reasonable fascimile:
Mehron Paradise Glitter in Dynamite Red. This loose red glitter can go over any red or pink lipstick. The key to getting the flecks to stick is layering on clear gloss before pressing the glitter on with a cotton swab.
Ka'Ori Glitzsticks. Glitzsticks are a two-step system: a creamy lipstick and a pot of matching loose glitter you press on with a brush. They come in red and pink, as well as electric blue, silver, and even bright yellow.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Metallic Lip Tars. Not really into the taste of glitter? Try a metallic lipstick instead. Super NSFW is a gorgeous metallic red, while Yao! is a true metallic fuchsia.

Still want more? (God, you guys, you're killing me.) Try out layered lips without the choking hazard with the looks in "Pucker Punch," a lip story in our February issue in part inspired by McGrath's textured, multicolored looks. We show three different layered lip ideas and divulge the products you'll need to recreate the craziest runway effects we've seen this season, from dual-ended lipsticks and disco-ball glosses to loose glitters, neon pigments, and metallic foils.
