Glamour . . Enhancement, Magical, or Malicious?????

Is there anything wrong with a bit of glamour?  Is it unrealistic or is it ambitious to reach for that little bit of extra-ness or enhancment that brings us closer to the mental concept of our ideals & our interests .  You can glamour things in your life as a way to personally affirm their importance or their significance to you.  It is when glamourous powers are used for evil that it becomes malicious ie;

X-Glamour your self Image to gain approval of the masses.

X-Glamour specific details of your resume.

X-Glamour the truth by leaving out MINOR details that hold MAJOR significance..

Umm well unfortunately that last one I've never quite experienced.  Wait not that I've ever been guilty of  the previous three either ( ----->Input Glamour Statement here about Beyonce, Paul Mitchell Rabell& Sachika, being positive examples of glamour as empowerment in order to distract neonfix.blogspot visitors from my self defamation of charchter #POW<------).  On that note please read on for the Wikipedia encyclopedia definition of Glamour as a statement. (smh,  @Nelleneon Wipes sweat from brows and exhales)

Glamour originally was a magical-occult spell cast on somebody to make them believe that something or somebody was attractive. In the late 19th century terminology a non magical item used to help create a more attractive appearance gradually became 'a glamour'.[1] Today, glamour is the impression of attraction or fascination that a particularly luxurious or elegant appearance creates, an impression which is better than the reality. Typically, a person, event, location, technology, or product such as a piece of clothing can be glamorous or add glamour.
Virginia Postrel says that for glamour to be successful nearly always requires sprezzatura - an appearance of effortlessness, and to appear distant - transcending the everyday, to be slightly mysterious and somewhat idealised, but not to the extent it is no longer possible to identify with the person.[1] Glamorous things are neither opaque, hiding all, nor transparent showing everything, but translucent, favourably showing things.[2]
The early Hollywood star system in particular specialised in Hollywood glamour where they systematically glamorised their actors and actresses.[1]
Glamour can be confused with a style, which is adherence to a particular school of fashion, or intrinsic beauty; whereas glamour can be external and deliberate.

Neon Fix Artist Spotlight: Ryan B. Anthony

"Always here to invoke your inner Masterpiece"-Ryan B. Anthony

I first met Ryan B. Anthony last Summer in Philadelphia. He was doing one of he close friends Hair and makeup for her birthday party. I attending the same party and was asked to do makeup for the even as well. My first impression of Ryan was a very chill persona. As the night progressed and i got a chance to know him a little bit more. I found out that he is a man of MANY talents, and he's actually good at all of them. He's also hands down a real gentlemen, but definitely a guy that's not afraid to let his hair down.

Ryan B. Anthony and Neon Fix in contact through social networking, and the occasional party invite. Recently he donated his time for Neon Fix Care first ever "Vanity Day." Which he was very helpful and enthusiastic about the cause.

RBA:25 years wise

TB:Where are you originally from?
RBA:PHILADELPHIA, PA!

TB:Where do you currently reside?
RBA:MANHATTAN, NY

TB:What is you passion(s)…ie what do you do?
RBA:MY PASSIONS ARE LIFE, LOVE, AND LIVING FREELY. WHAT I DO IS IMAGE CONSULTING, MAKEUP ARTISTRY, HAIR ARTISTRY, FASHION DESIGN AND EXPRESSIONIST PAINTING.

TB:How long have you been a makeup artist/ Hair Stylist?
RBA:I STARTED STUDYING HAIR AND MAKEUP REALLY YOUNG, BUT PROFESSIONALLY ABOUT SEVEN YEARS.

TB:What could you say is the “POP” that makes your artistry stand out from the crowd?
RBA:I AM THE POP THAT REPRESENTS MY ARTISTRY. PERSONALITY, POSITIVE ENERGY, AND CHARM HAS TAKEN ME REALLY FAR. I DON'T TRY TO STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD, I JUST DO THE BEST I CAN IN WHAT EVER I DO.

TB:When did you decide to take doing hair/makeup/styling from just play into a full-time job?
RBA:I DECIDED TO BECOME INDEPENDENT AFTER THE ECONOMY DIDN'T ALLOW ME TO WORK FULL-TIME CONSISTENTLY. BEING TOLD THAT I WAS OVER QUALIFIED FOR POSITIONS, GAVE ME THE DRIVE TO BECOME MY OWN BOSS ELEVATING AND MAXIMIZING MY SKILL LEVEL. HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING A RETAIL JOB PUSHED ME TO TAKE WHAT I DO SERIOUSLY.

TB:What is your favorite product(s) that you can not work without?
RBA:JUST GIVE ME MY BRUSHES, VARIOUS SHADES OF CONCEALER, A BRONZER AND WATCH ME GO!!

TB:Do you have a specific aesthetic that you like to stick to?
RBA:YES, TO ALWAYS REVEAL THE DEPTH ON ONES BEAUTY THROUGH ARTISTRY, I FOCUS ON THAT EVERY SINGLE TIME.

TB:I know you must have some HECTIC days in your line of work. What is the CRAZIEST day you have had in your profession?
RBA:YOUR RIGHT, I'VE HAD TONS OF CRAZY DAYS BUT THE ONE THAT IS MOST MEANINGFUL AND PROFOUND WAS MY FIRST NYC FASHION WEEK JOB. I NEVER WORKED IN NYC BEFORE THEN, AND I WAS SO SCARED, NERVOUS AND EXCITED. I WAS BOOKED TO DO MAKEUP, HOWEVER THE DESIGNER WAS SHORT ON HAIR STYLISTS. THE OPPORTUNITY PRESENTED ITSELF FOR ME TO TAKE A RISK AND SHOWCASE MY SKILLS, AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I DID. FOURTEEN MODELS LATER, I WAS BEING CALLED THE KEY HAIR STYLIST FOR THAT SHOW. I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE WHAT I WAS CAPABLE OF AT THE AGE OF NINETEEN, I REALIZED THAT MY HANDS AND MY VISIONS COULD WORK WONDERS..I FELT BLESSED.

TB:Describe to personal style?
RBA:ITS EMOTIONAL AND UNCONTROLLED. I LIKE TO REPRESENT HOW I FEEL THROUGH MY STYLE.

TB:Would you say that you are a very stylish person?
RBA:I WOULD SAY I LOVE TO HAVE FUN WITH CLOTHING AND TRY NEW THINGS, PEOPLE WOULD SAY THAT I AM STYLISH OR AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD.

TB:What is your favorite quote?
RBA:I HAVE SO MANY, BUT I CAN CHOOSE ONE, "IT DOESN'T HAVE TO MAKE SENSE, AS LONG AS IT LOOKS GOOD"- Ryan B.

TB:Are there time when you doubt yourself as an artist?
RBA:OF COURSE MANY TIMES, BUT WITHOUT DOUBT I WOULDN'T HAVE THE ZEAL TO LEARN MORE.

TB:What would you day is your weakness?
RBA:MY WEAKNESS IS ALSO MY STRENGTH, IT'S LOVE.

TB:Who is Ryan B. Anthony? (just give a short description of you personality and demeanor)
RBA:I AM EVER GROWING AND CHANGING, CONSTANTLY IN SEARCH FOR THE UNKNOWN AND TRYING TO SEE DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES OF THE OBVIOUS. IM DARING, SILLY, A GEEK AT HEART, LOVING AND EXTREMELY SELF AWARE. I ALSO KNOW THAT THIS QUESTION COULD HAVE A THOUSAND ANSWERS SO I'LL JUST SAVE THE REST FOR THE READERS OBSERVATIONS.

TB:How did your family take the news then you told them you were about to move to NYC to pursue your dreams?
RBA:MY MOTHER RESPECTED MY DECISION BUT THE NEWS DID BOTHER HER. MY FAMILY WAS ABSOLUTELY AGAINST IT, BUT AT THAT TIME NO ONE COULD HAVE STOPPED ME, IT WAS A GREAT DECISION AND I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN.

TB:Is it sometimes hard to have a stable relationship with such a busy, and sometime non-stop work schedule?
RBA:YES!!! FRIENDSHIPS, RELATIONSHIPS, ANYTHING THAT INVOLVES DEDICATING TIME AND NURTURING. ITS HARD BUT LIKE ANYTHING, IF YOU WANT IT TO WORK, IT WILL.

TB:Describe your general clientele, and the kind of service that you provide for them?
RBA:I DON'T HAVE A GENERAL CLIENTELE, THEY ALL COME FROM DIFFERENT WALKS OF LIFE, SOME ARE VERY KNOWN IN THE SOCIAL SCENE, SOME ARE MOTHERS, SOME ARE TEENS, SOME ARE TRENDY MEN, AND SOME COULD CARE LESS ABOUT FASHION OR BEAUTY, BUT THE SERVICE IS CONSISTENT WITH EVERYONE. IF MY CLIENT HAS A NEED, IT WILL BE FULFILLED.

TB:Is it easy being Ryan B. Anthony?
RBA:OF COURSE, IF I CAN'T BE ME WHO ELSE WOULD I BE? NO THANK YOU LOL I LOVE MYSELF..A LOT.

TB:I know that you are also taking on a new project: Ryan B Anthony the Designer. When did this new Journey begin?
RBA:I WAS ACTUALLY DESIGNING BEFORE HAIR AND MAKEUP, BUT AT THE MOMENT WHERE I COULD HAVE TAKEN MYSELF AS A DESIGNER TO THE NEXT LEVEL, I SAID NO. I FELT LIKE I WANTED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE FASHION OF BEING A FASHION DESIGNER. NOT JUST MAKING CLOTHES BUT UNDERSTANDING THE CULTURE BEHIND THE ART FORM. I FEEL LIKE I'M READY NOW, SO TO BE CONTINUED...;)

TB:Do you have a name for you line?
RBA:I DO, IT'S QUITE SIMPLE "RYAN B".

TB:What group(s) of women are your designs catered to?
RBA:THE FOCUS WILL BE FOR WHO EVER DESIRES TO FEEL AND LOOK AMAZING. MY DESIGNS ARE NOT BUILT BY WALLS, BUT BY WHAT I'M ABLE TO GIVE AND WHAT THE CONSUMER WILL BE ABLE TO RECEIVE.

TB:Will you see yourself designing for men?
RBA:YES, IN TIME TAILORING IS SOMETHING I TAKE SERIOUSLY AND WITH MENSWEAR THAT MUST COME FIRST, AT LEAST FOR MY DESIGNS.

TB:Are you satisfied with where your journeys have taken you so far? Are there any regrets?
RBA:I AM SATISFIED WITH MY JOURNEY, AND IT MAY SOUND COMMON BUT NO I DON'T HAVE ANY REGRETS. LIFE IS FOR LIVING, NOT REGRETTING.

TB:I know that there are many young artist that look up to you (myself included). What are some encouraging words that you can tell them to help them on their journey?
RBA:THANK YOU FIRST, AND JUST ALWAYS BE OPEN TO FINDING THE DEPTH OF WHO YOU ARE, WHEN YOU HAVE AN UNDERSTAND OF YOURSELF, YOU COULD PRETTY MUCH DO ANYTHING YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO DO. OH AND FEAR IS A BAD INVESTMENT, TRY COURAGE IT KEEPS YOU RICH;)

TB:Where do you see Ryan B. Anthony in the next 5 years?
RBA:ONLY GOD KNOWS, I'M JUST DIGGIN THE MOMENT OF TODAY..

TB:Neon Fix Cares is a Non Profit that is proving the “Value of Vanity” for anyone who is suffer from low self-esteem due to tough life experiences. Letting them know that it’s ok to love yourself and know that power that we all carry. How in your own way can you spread the word of positive vanity?
RBA:I THINK BY PRACTICING WHAT I PREACH AND SETTING AN EXAMPLE TO THOSE WHO MAY NOT UNDERSTAND POSITIVE VANITY. IF I CAN SHOW SOME ONE THAT LOVING MYSELF IS AWESOME, THEN IT MIGHT STIMULATE THE AWARENESS OF SELF LOVE WITHIN THEIR SOULS..

TB:Who inspires you to keep doing what you do....Who is you No1 Cheerleader?
RBA:MY MOMMY INSPIRES ME AND WOMEN ALL OVER THE WORLD, AND I AM MY #1 CHEERLEADER, I HAVE TO BE..

TB:Who are your industry icons that inspired you to do all that you do today?
RBA:SAM FINE, KEVYN AUCION, ANDY WARHOL, CHRISTIAN DIOR, COCO CHANEL AND ALEXANDER MCQUEEN.

Coco & Breezy "Wear-able Art" FW 2011

We are still in year 2020. As we soar through Planet C && B, the environment is dark and blue. We came across a black hole, and we see a beam of bright colors peaking through. We were very curious of what it was. Coco puts on the "Ezri Headband to detect a new found city in Planet C && B. Seeking from above while soaring through the black light sky,we look down and see works of art. We take our C && B Eyewear off, and look down again and see nothing. We put the eyewear back on and see asymmetrical buildings, with neon lights beaming out the windows. We see pieces of art just floating from the gravity in the air in this city. Breezy pulls a piece of art from the sky and puts it on her arm. Coco pulls another piece of art from the sky and puts it on her neck. With that being said, Welcome to the city of "Wear-able Art.

Vanity Day May 2011

BIG THANK YOU again to all the artists and sponsors that made this day possible! May "Vanity Day" was a special day for our clients thanks to all the effort, creativity, and professionalism of our Vanity Day artists. " It was a heart felt event filled with a lot of insight & emotion. Two of the women experienced the power of hair & make up for the first time and were empowered by the extra bit of glam. The days event provided a consultation portion, so artist client visions of style were cohesive and well executed to the personal taste of the women. Smiles were testament to the success of the day & all four women seemed thrilled with their new look. Le Souk provided a very intimate atmosphere for personal, life, self image & vanity discussion. We came to a common consensus that vanity is innocent & necessary as long as it is based on YOUR perception and taste and not contrasted and compared to popular culture and not dependent on the validation of the masses. Only YOU know the VALUE of your VANITY, not society. I anticipate the growth of our movement and can't wait to take over the world, one vain day at a time. Looking forward to our next event!

Neon Fix Artist Spotlight: Sye Spence

It was one Sunday in March when I met Singer Sye Spence in the studio of fashion photographer Bryan Taylor Johnson. I was booked to do her makeup for her promo shoot. I was greeted with a warm smile from Sye, and her mother. She described her look to me "very edgy, but keeping the innocence of her natural beauty."

As we became well acquainted I asked to listen to some of her music. To my surprise she was exceptional, and truly gifted. A very powerful voice came from the speakers, and I instantly became a fan of Sye Spence.

A few weeks ago i contacted her and wanted to know more about her. So enjoy the interview that I had with this new up and coming artist.

*****************************************

TB: How old are you?

SS: 22

TB: Where are you originally from?

SS: New York City =)

TB: Where do you currently reside?

SS: New York baby...

TB: What’s your favorite quote?

SS: "Original or spicy...?" - Popeye's Chicken

TB: What is your personal style?

SS: I love pieces that give me that perfect combination of beautiful woman and a little bada%# (haha). So I usually have on a pair of heels and something black. I love to be sexy and feminine with an edge.

TB:How long have you been singing?

SS: I've been singing since I was 6 at that first talent show at PS 195 in Queens. (Queens stand up haha)

TB: Did you know that singing was what you were going to do form an early age?

SS: I always sang in front everyone from family, friends, and even strangers when I was young. Singing is one of those things that I believe wouldn't let me go. Even when I tried other things, but I knew I was created to do this…make music.

TB: Who would you say inspire you as an artist?

SS: Powerful vocalists/performers like Janis Joplin, Steven Tyler and Freddy Mercury to Gwen Stefani and Pink. However, I grew up on so many other styles of music. My mom used to play Anita Baker and Celine Dion for me as a child and that's how I learned to use my voice. I went through my tomboy stage where I listened to nothing but gangster rap. I love reggae music (my family is Jamaican it‘s in my blood). I would say that everything that I love in music and have been exposed to inspires me in some way to be an honest artist.

TB:What would you say was your big break?

SS: Being conceived on that cool September day haha...(sorry mom lol). But seriously, my whole life is something I see as a gift, so although as a musician, I have been able to release great music, perform in front of lots of people, there are still pinnacles that I am working towards reaching. Nonetheless, I have an innate sense of success that stems just from my gratitude for living. =)

TB: What role do your parents play in your career?

SS: My parents are amazing. They are really supportive and seem to grow in their support as time goes by. My mom is also very smart from a business perspective so we are always working together on innovative ways to connect my music with the audience.

TB:Describe your style of music?

SS: Its rock. Its emotional though. I was fortunate enough to work with awesome musicians and a producer that really got how to merge rock with various genres from electro to symphony so its very experimental in that it breaks down and climaxes in emotion on every song.  My EP, Mad Mad World is really a mashup of all of that.

TB: Who do you get compared to the most?

SS: I don't know! I really don't get the comparisons (to my face).

TB: What venue do you dream of performing at?

SS: The O2 arena. Something about the reception of alternative music overseas that makes me really excited to tour there.

TB: Who are your music ICONS?

SS: U2.

TB: Do you remember your first performance? How did you feel when you where finished?

SS: That was when I was 6 so I was just happy that everyone else was cheering. It felt amazing being on stage.

TB: Are you dating?

SS: No, not right now.

TB: Why are you single I’m sure guys are knocking at your door?

SS: (Haha) it is tough. When you are very dedicated to something like your career. I sometimes have limited time to really get to know someone, and allow them to get to know me. which I feel is the basis for a relationship. But I'm pretty sure that with the right guy things will work out. Only time will tell.

TB: Would you say you are a very fashionable person?

SS: Hmm… I must admit I really don't keep up with the latest trends. I do know what I like. I'm the girl that if it looks hot on me then that’s all that matters. I guess its more style over fashion.

TB:What is your favorite item in your closet that you could not live without?

SS: Right now...My army green suede platform heels. They are so cute!

TB: Do you have any encouraging words for those who are try to make a name for themselves in the industry.

SS: Yes, never give up. And don't listen to anyone who tells you that you should. Also, don't wait on anyone to hand you your career. Unapologeticly create the career/life that you want.

TB:Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

SS: Definitely touring between the states and abroad and writing music that people love.

TB: Neon Fix Cares is a Project that gives women who have low self-esteem the chance to know the Value of Vanity.  What does the Value of Vanity mean you, and how in your own way can you  Spread the word of Positive Vanity?

SS: Wow. The Value of Vanity to me means; you love the girl you see in the mirror. She isn't going anywhere so you better learn to love her, and treat her like a million bucks. I can spread the value of vanity by encouraging others to look in the mirror and be happy with who they see and want the best for themselves. <3

Where will the world take this NYC native Sye Spence? All I know is if she keeps singing like this there is no limit in what she can do.
